Message from the Hon. Minister of Co-operation & Coir

In order to cope with the high demand for quality human power in the new scenario of Technological advancement and the information revolution, educational institutions especially those imparting technical education have the responsibility of creating world-class engineers, technologists and managers. With the view in mind, Sri Pinarayi Vijayan the former Minister for Co-operation, Government of Kerala took an initiative for starting technical educational institutions in Kerala under the Co-operative sector. It is his great vision and foresightedness which led to the establishment of the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education (CAPE) in 1999 and its constituent technical educational institutions all over Kerala especially in the backward North Malabar area. Sri. E.K Nayanar, Chief Minister of Kerala was the Chairman of the Society and Sri. S.Sharma, Minister for Electricity and Co-operation was the Chairman of the Board of Governors and Executive Committee of the Society at the time of registering the Society under Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act, 1995.

As Chairman, I am proud that we could start six Engineering Colleges, one Medical College, a School of Nursing and a College of Nursing with all infrastructure facilities. With the objective of creating world class managers, a management institute of excellence named Institute of Management & Technology(IMT) was established at Punnapra. A finishing school was also setup at Punnapra. With the aim of providing better treatment facilities at a lower cost to the public, a Satellite hospital named Co-operative Hospital was also started at Punnapra.

New projects nearing completion are two more Engineering colleges at Aranmula and Pathanapuram and an MBA college at North Paravur. With the starting of these institutions CAPE would be one of the top most organizations in the country to have quality educational institutions in multidiscipline. The fact that no seat was vacant in our institutions during the past few years shows that our colleges are the preferential destinations of students seeking admission to technical educational institutions.

I am really glad unlike in other private self-financing institutions we could provide technical education to 50 percent of students at fee rates applicable in Government institutions, which is in tune with the proclaimed policy of Government of Kerala. As the Chairman, I assure you that we at CAPE are dedicated ourselves for the upliftment of the poor in the field of technical education and that we will continue our effort to be the topmost organization in the field.
