Cochin Medical College, Kochi

The Cochin Medical College, Kalamassery, Kochi started during the year 2000-2001 under CAPE with the approval of the Medical Council of India. The foundation stone was laid by the then Hon'ble Chief Minister Sri.E.K.Nayanar. p42The inauguration of the College was done by the then Hon'ble Chief Minister Sri. A.K.Antony on 2003. The College is affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). The admissions and functioning of the college is according to the rules and regulations formulated by the Government of Kerala.

The Cochin Medical College campus and Hospital sprawls over 60 acres of picturesque landscape at Kalamassery in the Ernakulam(Cochin) district of Kerala, only 4 Km away from the NH47. CMC is easily accessible from Cochin, Aluva, Perumbavoor side by road facility and bus services and is with in approximately 15km distance with these towns. It is only at a distance of 10 Km from the Ernakulam North railway station and Aluva railway station, 15 Km from Ernakulam South railway station. Cochin International Airport is just 25 Km away from the campus.

The Courses offered are Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS), B.Sc Nursing and Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery(GNM).p42

The duration of MBBS course is Four & Half year followed by one year internship. The number of students in each fresh batch is 100. A student is eligible for entry to the course after clearing the 12th class (Intermediate) examination. The duration of GNM course is Three & Half year followed by 1 year internship. The number of students in each fresh batch is 40. A student is eligible for entry to the course after clearing the 12th class (Intermediate) examination. During the academic year 2009-2010, the Indian Nursing Council permitted to conduct B.Sc Nursing course with an intake of 60. The college admit nursing students/year according to Kerala Govt. norms and the course is accredited to INC (Indian Nursing Council) & KNC (Kerala Nursing Council) and affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) & Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT).

The admission to 85% MBBS seats are from the State Entrance examinations rank list and 15% MBBS seats are reserved for Non Resident Indian(NRI) students. The admission is open to all Indian citizens.

p42Cochin Medical College also offers Diploma courses (2 years) like DMLT-Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, DRT-Diploma in Radiation Techniques, DOTT-Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology and Certificate courses like Nursing assistant course and Medical records keeping course.
